5 Ways to Celebrate Data Privacy Day

Today, January 28th is Data Privacy Day and eSimplicity is proud to be a Champion in helping to promote this important initiative from the National Cyber Security Alliance!

We all know that data privacy is critical, and that just one data breach can put a company out of business. Additionally, we know that one quarter of all data breaches last year were caused by human error.

Although we know this, what are we doing to protect ourselves and our organizations? And when was the last time you reviewed data privacy best practices with your team members?

If you haven’t done so recently, today gives you the perfect excuse to start a dialogue that will empower your team members to take action, be aware of the risks and be on the lookout for potential threats.

Here are 5 ways you can celebrate Data Privacy Day:

1. Send out reminders and/or short videos that demonstrate best practices for being security aware, ensure these are included in employee handbooks and onboarding training.

2. Continuously review your technology and how it handles privacy data in accordance with your privacy policy.

3. Host a team brown bag session or webinar and invite a speaker or your CISO to talk about the importance of data privacy and common pitfalls to be aware of.

4. Perform a cyber drill and practice with your employees what you would do if you were to face a data breach.

5. Track the compliance and effectiveness of your privacy program then take corrective action as necessary.
